Teething Rings Provide Safe Self-Help Pain Relief

When infants show the first signs of teething, most parents will being looking at teething rings to help their child through the process of cutting new teeth. For many infants when they begin teething they begin looking for things to chew on. Manipulating their gums by chewing helps the teeth break through the gum surface and also help relieve the pain of teething. Special teething rings can be filled with gel or another liquid that can be frozen, also said to provide additional teething relief.

When an infant begins teething they like to chew on things to help ease the pain of cutting teeth. Teething rings come in a variety of shapes and size as well as textures. Many infants prefer chewing on hard, smooth objects such as the handle of a hairbrush or the mom’s car keys. The biggest problem with these items is the potential for the infant to ingest bacteria from the items causing infections in the mouth, or worse. By using infant teething rings, they can be kept cleaner and are dedicated to only the use for which they were intended.

The simple hard smooth teething rings will works for most infants as they go through the teething process, but others may need a little more help with the discomfort. There are some filled with a freezable gel that can be placed in the freezer for about 30 minutes to an hour, offering the child a chilling effect while working against the discomfort.

Watch For Quality In Anything Infant Will Chew

During the first days of cutting teeth, most infants are merely gumming the teething rings they are given, massaging their own gums for relief. As teeth begin to show through there is the possibility of the biting through the soft surface of most of the filled teething rings. While the materials inside are claimed to be non-toxic, the source they are from may not always meet the standards for child safety. Be sure to read the package for indications that the teether may cause illness if ingested. If it will, throw it away before it is too late.

Probably the best thing a child can chew on when teething is mom or dad’s clean finger. However, once teeth break through the surface the pain of teething can be transferred to the parents. High-quality, non-toxic teething rings can take the place of the finger and help the child through this stage of their life without the need for the parent to hold it constantly.
